| Ranking Criteria: This is a DUAL MEET RANKING. The
standard for being ranked is schedule, schedule and schedule. You must
wrestle competition from outside of your league, county, section or area
of the state. Local, regional or sectional polls are based on competition
within that area only and have no direct effect on the STATE POLL. This
is a state wide poll which includes all 11 sections, public league of
NYC, church leagues and in some cases some private schools. Results are
screened on a week to week basis. On ocassion it may take longer to investigate
the results of a given match, usually not more than a week. Individual
tourneys, State Championship team results and results of competition outside
of New York State generally have no effect on the DUAL rankings, unless
the competition is extremely weak in nature. The best place to meet good multiple competion from other sections, in a DUAL MATCH format, is at dual meet tourneys. The following is a listing of a few of the more notable ones but are not the only ones. Union-Endicott Duals-4, Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Duals-3, Empire State Duals (Queensbury)-2, Newburg Duals-9, Ballston Spa Duals-2, St. Anthony's Duals-C, Brockport Duals-5, Dutchman Duals-2, Fayettevill-Manlius Duals-3, Westhampton Duals-11 and there may be others involving top notch competition from multiple sections. As it presently stands the U-E Duals are the best tourney for level of competition (ranked teams involved this year 1,3,5,7,8,14 & 28 per the latest ranking). This tourney would surely be complete with the inclusion of one or more of the Islands top notch teams as well as other top teams from around the state. The surest way for a team to drop in the rankings is to wrestle a light or weak schedule or to not wrestle outside of their league. Teams are rewarded for wrestling a tough state wide schedule (this would explain why some teams have loses and are ranked higher while others are undefeated and ranked lower). If you ascend the top of the rankings you are then required, on an annual basis, to put it on the line. A team must give others a chance to knock them off the top. If you dodge competition you will drop in the polls. I hope this assists all the prognosticators out there with a better understanding of how it all works. Good luck the rest of the season and lets all enjoy the greatest sport on earth....WRESTLING......... States is coming soon........... Thanks GMI |

Notes: Niskayuna Silver Warriors are just that...Warriors, in a league of their own atop the Section. Meanwhile, the rest of the teams are playing rankings hop-scotch. LaSalle seems to be experiencing some difficulty, looking like the favorites to win the Big 10 early in the season, the Cadets have dropped all three of their league duals so far. Hudson Falls is feeling the void left by injured Ryan Barber, while Ballston Spa is using every advantage it can get to claw their way back to the top. Albany and Amsterdam have made believers of the section, posting big league wins. Corinth, while dropping the bout to Shenendehowa, still stands as the best small school in the state, dropping only two spots to fourth in the section. |
