Friends of New York State Wrestling
On September 8, 2002 a group of people met to create opportunities for wrestlers and coaches to be the best we can be.
Develop a mission statement. One sentence that states why we exist.
Develop a series of vision statements. Get people on the same page and create a shared vision (cerebral picture) of what it looks like when the mission is being fulfilled.
Develop strategies to put the vision in action. Consider assets and liabilities, strengths and threats when doing so.
Convert strategies into work plans by turning them into task oriented statements which can be measured, have a completion date or at least a start date and ideally have a person or persons in charge of completing them.
This list of work plans becomes the master plan for the organization. Periodically,
the whole process starts over with an examination of the mission statement to make sure it
is current.
The purpose of the meeting was to review a top to bottom analysis of all
existing wrestling and delivery systems of the programs in NYS. Many attendees strongly
believed that NY has all the ingredients and infrastructure within the state and the kids
who want to compete against the elite wrestlers in the country.
We are very lucky to be within the geographical area of the greatest high school wrestling states in the country, bordering New York State. New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Ohio have for years have been very consistent in producing both teams and individuals who can compete against any state in the country.
Prior to the arrival at the meeting, each attendee was to present the following opinion and information to the group:
QUESTION: "If you were appointed the CZAR of New York State Wrestling and answered to no one, what would you implement to maximize the state's full potential?"
Each speakers report was recorded and sent back to each person for final statements. Marketing and strategy plans for implementation as well a Mission Statement will be developed and placed on the nywrestling.com website.
The last piece of the puzzle before publishing the committees findings and recommendations is you, the shareholders in the sport of wrestling. The committee wants to hear from you! Try to think out of the box and above all do not concentrate on being critical of organizations, coaches, volunteers and institutions. Once again, what would you implement that will allow New York Wrestlers to be the best that they can be.
Think big, be positive and remember you are the CZAR and answer to no one.
Send your comments to: editor@nywrestling.com and your comments will be part of the official documents by November 1, 2002
We will publish the final committee report on November 15, 2002
